1975– American Los Angeles, CA

Jim Mahfood (also known as Food One, born March 29, 1975, St. Louis, MO) is an American comic-book artist, illustrator, muralist, and live-painter based in Los Angeles. His signature style — loose, kinetic black-line work splashed with day-glo color and hip-hop typography — he calls “Visual Funk.”

Mahfood began publishing his own comics in 1995 with Girl Scouts, broke into Marvel in 1997 with Generation X Underground Special, and has since worked across nearly every major comics publisher. Selected comics work includes Kevin Smith’s Clerks comics, 21st Century Tank Girl (Titan), Miami Vice: Remix (IDW/Lion Forge), Howard The Human (Marvel), and his ongoing Grrl Scouts series.

His commercial and editorial clients include Playboy, Disney, Armani, Nissan, NBC, Sony, Comedy Central, MTV, Cartoon Network, Pabst Blue Ribbon, and Ziggy Marley’s MarijuanaMan project. He painted the murals on Comedy Central’s Sarah Silverman Program and provided art for Marvel’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse universe.
