Shepard Fairey is an American street artist, activist, and graphic designer. He emerged from skateboarding and punk subcultures in the late 1980s, gaining notoriety with his “Andre the Giant Has a Posse” sticker campaign while attending the Rhode Island School of Design. His practice spans screenprints, murals, painting, and mixed media — fusing bold graphic design with political commentary and appropriated imagery.
Fairey is best known for the iconic Barack Obama “Hope” poster and his OBEY brand. His work is held by the Smithsonian, MoMA, LACMA, the National Portrait Gallery, and the V&A.
