Blazing Devotion
Blazing Devotion is a 25-colour silkscreen with gloss varnish that translates Sir Brian Clarke’s 2021 Wimbledon stained-glass window onto paper. Against a vivid blue ground, scarlet poppies hang on thin dripping stems, their translucent petals etched through two flash layers where stained glass traditionally uses one — a technique Clarke called “the key that unlocks the future for stained glass.” It was, in his own words, the first print he had ever seen that gave him the experience of looking at glass rather than reproducing it.
The work was conceived and completed in the final months of Clarke’s life. He died on 1 July 2025. Released by HENI in April 2026 as the first in a planned series of silkscreens drawn from his stained-glass practice, in an edition of 200 plus 20 APs.
